Superbikes at Winton 2006
What a weekend, getting to ride the 2007 Harley Davidson Fatboy and watching the Yamaha Racing Team rider Jamie Stauffer giving it a red hot go and extending his points lead in the Australian Superbike Championship with a flawless performance in the sixth and penultimate round of the series at Victoria's Winton Raceway. It was on for young and old.
After qualifying fastest on Saturday qualifier, Stauffer won both 17 lap races to open a 37 point lead over Honda rider good old Russell Holland.
Stauffer dominated both races, setting a new lap record of 1m22.246s for the 3km circuit as he powered to a 7.43 second victory in race one and then backing up with a 17.31 second win in race two.
Stauffer cleaned up the superbike class and it was made even sweeter when earlier in the day he nabbed the 2006 Australian Supersport Championship, the 27 yr old now holds an unbeatable points lead in that series with one round still to go.
Team Suzuki rider Robbie Bugden scored his first podium finish in the 2006 season with a hard fought 2nd place in each superbike race with New Zealand champion Andrew Stroud 3rd overall on his Suzuki with 3rd and 4th place in the two races.
What weekend it was for Chief Bike Nut, jam packed with exciting Bike Nut stuff, wish every weekend was like this one.
